Updating the ECOWAS Quality and Industry Database

As a reminder, the WAQSP program that preceded the WACOMP supported the setting up of the Quality and Industry database which is online (https://ecoquib.waqsp.org/) through an application (the ECOQUIB).  WACQIP is assisting to populate the database with more information from the Quality Infrastructure Gap Analysis and on the Value Chains. The support also includes improvement of the technical dimensions in terms of database applications, development of new tools for collection of data and quality control, and support to national focal Points and stakeholders on the use of the database. After the training of National Quality and Industry Focal Points, in November 2020, on new features incorporated into the ECOQUIB App, the focal points are still collecting data on Quality and Industry. Therefore, quality data collected in Ghana, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, the Gambia, Nigeria, Cabo Verde and Guinea have been already validated and available online.

In addition, industry data collected in Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ghana and the Gambia have been validated and available online.

In order to ensure synergy of actions between Mauritania and ECOWAS in the fields of quality and industry, a separate database is being set up for Mauritania. The Mauritanian database (the MAUQUIB) is led by the National Ministry of Industry and WACQIP has provided technical expertise (including 3 National Quality and Industry focal points). The implementation has effectively started with the collection of data by the national quality and industry focal points and the development of an application similar to ECOQUIB. A server provider for the MAUQUIB has already been selected for this purpose.
