BENIN

Benin, like other countries in the sub-region, has finally chosen its representatives to the ECOWAS Quality Award, the second edition. To get there, it was necessary to pass the stage of the National Quality Award at the end of which the best companies, by category, were revealed.

It is the CABINET BEST EXPERTS CONSEILS in the category of companies with less than 20 employees; the LABORATOIRE CENTRAL DE SÉCURITÉ SANITAIRE DES ALIMENTS (LCSSA) for companies with a workforce of between 20 and 100, and finally CIMBENIN, a cement company, in the category of companies with a workforce of more than 100.

The award ceremony for these three winners of the National Quality Award, 2019 edition, will be organized very soon in Cotonou, Benin

 

BURKINA FASO

The 2019 edition of the Burkinabe Quality Award was launched on March 18, 2019. Several companies participated. The list of the best companies winning the awards of excellence selected to participate in the second edition of the ECOWAS Quality Award (PCEDEAO) 2019 are:

It should be recalled that the Burkinabe Quality Award was instituted in Burkina Faso by decree n° 2017-0245/PRES/PM/MCIA/MINEFID of April 24, 2017 on the institution of the Burkinabe Quality Award (BQA). The information and awareness-raising workshop on this award and that of the ECOWAS Quality was held in the conference room of the Agency for the Promotion of Exports of Burkina (APEX-Burkina Faso), in Ouagadougou. The event took place in the presence of the stakeholders of the WAQSP (EU, UNIDO, ECOWAS, and UEMOA). At the opening, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Handicraft of Burkina Faso, Stephane Wenceslas SANOU, recalled the context, the stakes of the ECOWAS Quality Award and its objectives before encouraging National companies to participate in the National Quality Award in hopes of taking part in the ECOWAS award. He also thanked, on behalf of the Burkinabe Government, the European Union for the financing of the Programme, the ECOWAS Commission for the adoption of the Regional Quality Policy (ECOQUAL) and UNIDO for its expertise in implementing the WAQSP. The ceremony ended with the announcement of companies to represent Burkina Faso at the ECOWAS Quality Award. These are: Bank of Africa (Cat. A), SONAR Assurance (Cat. B) and Grace Divine (Cat. C).

 

IVORY COAST

On the occasion of the 7th National Day of Excellence held on Tuesday, August 06, 2019, the Quality Excellence Award 2019 was awarded by the Ivorian Government to NOUVELLE PARFUMERIE GANDOUR (NPG), the winner company of the 15th edition of the Ivorian Quality Award.

During this traditional award ceremony; the company NOUVELLE PARFUMERIE GANDOUR (NPG), received a trophy, a diploma signed by the President of the Republic and 10 Million CFA Franc.

Indeed, organized every year since 2002, the national quality competition called "Ivorian Quality Award" is a dynamic tool, designed to promote quality culture in Côte d'Ivoire, to encourage companies to undertake quality initiatives and to reward those who have distinguished themselves by the implementation of an exemplary quality approach.

The Ivorian Quality Award is open to all organizations, whatever their size and field of activity, engaged in a quality approach, certified or not.

The launch of the 2019 edition (15th edition) that has just ended, took place on Thursday, October 25, 2018 during the National Days of Quality. The official proclamation of the results of the different levels of competition is scheduled for October 2019, during the National Days of Quality.

 

GAMBIA

The second edition of the Gambia Quality Awards was held during the period of May to July 2019. Applications were open from 8th April 2019 to 16th May 2019. The qualified organizations that entered the competition were audited by the National Quality Award Audit Team during the period of 21st May 2019 to 30th May 2019.

 

In total, eight (08) organizations entered the competitions and the winners in the different categories were as follow:

 

  • Level 1: Prestige Security
  • Level 2: The University of The Gambia
  • Level 3: N/A
  • Level 4: Medicine Control Agency

 

The winner of level 4 category, which organization is eligible to compete in the ECOWAS Quality Award was the Medicines Control Agency. Audit of MCA by the Regional Quality Award Audit Team is scheduled to take place on 29th and 30th August 2019.

 

The official ceremony for the recognition and award of trophies to the winners of the 2017 & 2019 Quality Awards editions in The Gambia is planned to be held on World Quality Day, Thursday, 14th November 2019.

 

GUINEA

Beyond the stage of the institutionalization of the award, Guinea launched on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, its National Quality Award. The ceremony took place in the premises of the Grand Hotel de l'Independance in Conakry. Mr. Djoume Sangare, Director General of the Guinean Institute for Standardization and Metrology (IGNM), informed the participants of the objectives of the award. "It will help, on the one hand, to create competition among promoters and managers of public and private companies and on the other hand, to work for the protection of consumers," he said. Following this, UNIDO Country Representative, Ansoumane Berete, said that "the chance for Africa, especially West Africa, to be present in the global market lies in country of this space to offer quality goods and services ". The ECOWAS Resident Representative in Guinea, Ms. Liliane Alapini, made the genesis of the quality award before showing its importance in the implementation of the Regional Quality Policy (ECOQUAL). She urged the Guinean private sector to invest more in the quality approach. The Secretary General of the Guinean Ministry of Industry, Mr. Alseny Sylla, affirmed the Ministry's commitment to make the quality award a priority, before thanking the partners for their support to Guinea.

After the launch of the award, all management bodies were put in place and made operational. The joint meeting of the organizing committee and the jury was held on October 17, 2018. Following a call for applications, seven (07) executives (auditors) were selected and trained on the award references. The technical secretariat carried out a campaign to mobilize and raise the awareness of potential candidate companies (preparation and transmission of documents relating to the price and monitoring of the return).

The Guinean Quality Award has registered the application of five (05) companies which are: BONAGUI SA (Category A, Level 4), SOGUILUBE SA (Category C, Level 4), Guinea Industry "GI" (Category A level 3); TOPAZ Multi-Industries SA (Category A, Level 1) and WEST INGENIERIE GUINEE (Category C, Level 2).

The audit of the candidate companies took place from 04 to 12 December 2018 and the jury met from 22 to 23 January 2019 to validate the results. The official awarded ceremony is scheduled for the end of July 2019.

 

SENEGAL

 

Senegal has just put another umpteenth very important step for the promotion of quality at the national level. This is the organization of the 8th edition of the National Quality Award with the recognition and the coronation of two (02) major companies, one in the category A and the other in the category B. They both won the "DIAMANT" Excellence Award.

For the second edition of the ECOWAS Quality Award, these two Senegalese companies are wearing the colors of Senegal and are appearing as serious candidates, big contenders compared to other companies in the West African sub region in competition. The two selected companies are: SOCOCIM INDUSTRIES, Category A, "Diamond Award" and BIOMEDICAL LABORATORY BIO24, Category B, "Diamond Award".

 

TOGO

 

In Togo, the ECOWAS Quality Award, edition 2019, was launched at the national level on May 17, 2019. Coupled with the official ceremony of deliberation of the results of the last edition, the event was organized by the High Authority of the Quality and Environment (HAUQE), with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Private Sector Development and Promotion of Local Consumption (MCIDSPPCL) and the West Africa Quality System Programme (WAQSP). It brought together the key actors in the country's quality system.

Mr. François Fidegnon KPAKPO, President of the organizing Committee of the Togolese Award and National Focal Point (NFP) of the programme, before officially proclaiming the results of the 2018 edition of the Togolese Quality Award (TQA), recalled that the goal of the ECOWAS Award is "not only to bring the maximum number of companies in the sub-region to engage in the quality approach, but also to ensure a better positioning of the products and services of the ECOWAS countries on the international market ". The winner companies of the Togolese Quality Award were presented to the public as well as those registered for the regional competition, which are the Ecole Supérieure des Affaires (ESA), Category B and the Cabinet Audit et Expertise Comptable (AEC), Category C. 

The Minister of Trade, Industry, Private Sector Development and Promotion of Local Consumption (MCIDSPPCL), Mr. ST Kodjo ADEDZE, after having urged the Togolese companies and institutions to engage in the quality approach and the certification, regardless of size and industry, and to participate in the National and Regional Awards, in recognition of the many benefits this participation affords to applicants, launched the 2019 edition of the Award.

 

LIBERIA

 

The National Quality Award, 2019 edition, was launched on June 30, 2019 in Liberia. For this edition, four (04) companies take part. They have names:

-DURAPLAST INC., Category 4-Diamond

-PETRO-TRADE, Category 4-Diamond

-FOUANI BROTHERS, Category 1-Bronze

- SOCIETE LIBERIENNE DE PRODUCTION DE BOISSONS ET D'EMBOUTEILLAGE (LCCB), Category 1 - Bronze

At the current stage, the audit of the companies is in progress and should be completed on Friday, June 28, 2019.

 

GHANA

 

The National Quality Awards (NQA) began in 2017 as part of the annual AGI Ghana Industry Awards in 2017.  The NQA is one of the major categories of the annual AGI Industry and Quality Awards. The NQA seeks to promote the development of quality in production and service delivery and bring public recognition to organizations that have made lasting commitment to the process of adopting quality as well as achieving outstanding standards of Quality.

The 2018 edition of the awards was under the theme “Transforming the Ghanaian Economy through Industrialization.” The awards launch took place at the Alisa Hotel located in Accra in June, 2018. In attendance were the AGI and its members, representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, members of the Steering Committee of the GSA and all Stakeholders.

 

Various organizations expressed interest by making enquiries and subsequently, picking up application forms to participate. After a successful assessment, the following were adjudged winners:
