ECOMET: Adoption of the 2022 program of activities of the QMS-CT5 technical committee

The TC5-ECOMET / TCSMQ held a meeting on Wednesday January 12, 2022. It was held by videoconference. At the beginning, the President of the TC5, Mr. Stanislas Dewinther TAPE, as moderator, stressed the importance of the TC5 meeting for the benefit of the Member States: the strengthening of the credibility of ECOMET and the metrological function in the ECOWAS space for a significant contribution in the process of economic and social development of the Member States. These are sufficient reasons, according to Laura Haeussler, for the PTB to support the project, especially in a context as difficult as that imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Liberia, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Mali, Benin, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.

They validated and adopted the program of activities for 2022 of the Technical Committee Quality Management System-TC5, identifying those to be carried out virtually and those to be organized physically and the countries likely to host them.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the election of the new Chair and Vice-Chair of TC5. In accordance with the TC rules, a new President and a new Vice-President had to be elected for the period 2022-2024.

At the end of the electoral process, the following members were elected President and Vice-President of the TC5:

Mr. Stanislas Dewinther TAPE, as President of TC5
Mr. Frank ANANG, as Vice President of TC5.
At the end of the meeting, the interim report presented by the Coordinator of the PTB-ECOWAS Project, Mr. Abraão LOPES, was adopted by the participants.

ECOMET is one of the 5 technical committees set up by the WAQSP/UNIDO within the framework of the ECOWAS Community Quality Council (CQC): The other committees are ECORAS (Regional Accreditation System), ECOSHAM (Community Committee for Standardization), ECOREG (Community Committee for Technical Regulation) and ECOCONF (Community Committee for Conformity Assessment).
